Change

This morning
even the squirrels
were stretched out
on the fence rail,
baking.

Now
the privet quivers
with the first
uncertain whispers
of winter.

Now
the bitten crickets
are a single
blind beast of
ambition.

There's no reasoning with changing seasons, is there. Never quite sure what or where they're at.

I can relate to that squirrel though ...

Debi, you could relate to a spoon, as long as it was horizontal!
Anyway, that squirrel is giving himself a waxing (brazilian nuts) on a piece of chewing gum. They do it all the time round here.

Devious little bastards...

Devious indeed, Carver. Of course those are American squirrels - English ones wouldn't be seen dead lying on the pavement, or a fence. They prefer a tanning bed.
